Sweeping Jets on Propellers

Sweeping jets, flip-flop nozzles, or fluidic oscillators have been successfully used for flow control in the past two decades. For the first time, we showed their implementation on a rotating platform: a propeller. The main challenge was the design of an experimental setup that allowed airflow through a rotating hub towardsw the individual blades. Each blade was instrumented with several sweeping jets. This work is aimed at Smart Rotor Control strategies on windmills in gusty environments.
